It was a rainy weekend .. I had cash therefore I had parts..
Here’s what I learned.
Wrist anti-static straps are over-rated; just wear socks.
The Chaser is a large case but not as monstrous as some would lead on.
ASUS needs BIOS upgrades as it rushes motherboard releases.
BIOS has a new to consumer name and a nicer interface.
The nice interface is pretty stupid and the old BIOS can be found under advanced.
The power standby USB BIOS flash doesn’t work.
I really do have patience not to destroy things when things are getting hard.
An SSD IS REALLY FAST to boot.
Thermal paste is easily cleaned off with a wet wipe.
RAM is unstable even under QVL. The RAM OK button works after multiple tries.
The RAM OK button optimizes the RAM.
It is very hard to hold a pen/pencil tip against RAM ok button for entire test routines.
Modular power supplies are cool but labeling could be better.
Cyberlink is a greedy company; it’s upgrade system is designed to rip one off.
The most modern motherboards now come with LED readouts.
The most modern MBs have dropped a common type slot.
Enthusiast sound card makers such as Clarion and Auzentech used this type slot.
One can take 12 or 16 tylenol over a weekend wile debugging.
I learned what bread-boarding is.
On board sound has improved immensely.
I learned how to do lots of stuff via the CMD prompt.
A fresh install is still best.
There’s likely much more.
AND FINALLY….
Chickenfoot ROCKS !!
